Freddie Aguilar speaks up on Maegan’s ‘mental abuse’ claims

May 20, 2014 Showbiz News

The current family tiff between Pinoy music icon Freddie Aguilar and his daughter, Maegan, is a hot topic among Pinoys these days. More than just a sordid saga of a celebrity family, it has also prompted many Pinoys to take stock of the fact that, indeed, many Pinoy “kids” stay with their parents long after they have their own families.

Is the Freddie vs. Maegan tiff common in Pinoy culture?

Freddie’s words

After Maegan accused him of subjecting her to mental and emotional abuse, Freddie said he only wishes the best for her even after she accused him of being “a bad man and a negligent father” in an interview published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Monday, May 19.

In a statement sent to ABS-CBN News, the 61-year-old singer said, “It’s unfortunate that my daughter decided to take a private matter to the press.”

He revealed, “I have been supporting my 35-year-old daughter and her family for many years now and have no intention of dragging her through the mud for entertainment’s sake,” he said.

In her interview with Inquirer entertainment columnist Dolly Ann Carvajal, Maegan had criticized her father for allegedly kicking her and her family out of their home after an argument over “rotten veggies” and her unpaid debt of P1,500.

Addressing this, Freddie only said, “My daughter, her partner, and all the other people living in my house know the truth.”

Freddie did not answer any of the allegations about his teenaged wife, Jovie Albao

In closing, Freddie said, “I wish Maegan all the best as she moves on and takes responsibility of her own life,” he said in his statement. “It is because I love my daughter that I choose to say nothing more on this matter.”

Maegan vs. bashers

Meanwhile, Maegan fired off anew against bashers via her Facebook page. She posted this status message: “Suko na talaga ako sa kabobohan ng bashers! Nag-assume kayo na palamunin kami? Excuse me! Pinauwi ako ng tatay ko sa bahay niya noong 2011 dahil gusto nya kaming makasama habang baby pa ang mga apo niya sa akin.”

Freddie’s sister, Marlene Aguilar, has expressed her support for Maegan.
