Zoren Legaspi answers issue on tax liabilities

May 10, 2014 Philippine Local News / Showbiz News

Zoren Legaspi will “comply and cooperate” with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) after the government’s collecting arm  filed a tax evasion charge against him on Thursday, May 8.

BIR chief Kim Henares said in an interview that Zoren “substantially under-declared” his earnings in 2010 and 2012. Zoren reportedly has P4.45 million in tax liabilities. Henares explained that the actor only declared P6.79 million from his P9.64 million earnings in 2010.  In 2012, he declared only P1.82 million from his P6.49 million earnings.

More than willing

Zoren said in a press statement that he supports BIR’s duty of collecting taxes.

“Suma-sang-ayon po ako na ang tamang buwis ay dapat bayaran para sa ikauunlad ng ating bayan! I’m more than willing to comply and cooperate regarding the ongoing investigation of my tax liabilities.”

Zoren’s camp would also like to know where and how he fell short of his obligations. He stressed that he “will never evade” his tax duties and that he’s grateful to those who expressed concern over the issue.

“Aalamin po namin kung saan kami nag-kamali or kung nagkulang ba kami sa paliwanag. I’m glad that the BIR brought their initial findings to the DOJ (Department of Justice) —that means they are doing their job. I love my country kaya I will never evade any tax obligation. I just need to figure out kung saan kami nagkamali (without malice or intention) and I’m waiting lang po sa official complaint ng BIR. Salamat po sa mga concern,” Zoren said.
