The son of Hong Kong actor and superstar Jackie Chan was reportedly arrested in Beijing along with a Taiwanese actor over drug-related offenses, Chinese media report said on Monday.

Jaycee Chan, the 32-year-old son of the Asian superstar and martial artist was arrested by Beijing police together with his friend, 23-year-old Taiwan actor Kai Ko Chen-tung in Dongcheng District in a series of anti-drug campaign that targeted the city’s entertainment industry.

In a statement released by Beijing Public Security Bureau on Thursday, authorities allegedly found 100 grams of marijuana in the younger Chan’s possession in his home. He is detained for using marijuana and hosting others to take the same drugs.

His friend, Ko, meanwhile, is under administrative detention for 14 days. Both have been tested positive for using the prohibited weed.

Another man named Song, suspected for supplying the drugs to the two, was also arrested the next day.

Chinese law prohibits anyone from taking more than 50 grams of marijuana and those found violating could face penalties from three years imprisonment to death by execution.

During the past six months, Beijing police have arrested several celebrities from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan over the use of various illegal drugs in the government’s stringent campaign to clean the entertainment industry.

Among those arrested are actors Gao Hu and Zhang Mo, Director Zhang Yuan, scriptwriter Ning Caishe and singer Li Daimo, all were sentenced to be detained and imprisoned anywhere between 10 days and nine months.

Jackie Chan himself signed for “Narcotics Control Ambassador” of the Chinese police five years ago and the news of his son’s arrest will surely bring embarrassment to the family.

It has been reported in the local entertainment newspapers that the kung fu superstar has earlier warned his son against Ko’s bad influence, prompting the young Taiwanese actor to publicly promise not to lead his friend astray.

Jaycee Chan, who acts with his father in a number of movies, has disappointed his father over a series of dismal movie box office  ouputs, like Double Trouble and 1911, the last being one of Chan’s worst-reviewed film to date.

The 60-year-old father once announced in an interview he would not leave his fortune to his son, but instead would donate them to charities.

“If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money,” adding his son must earn and work for a life of himself.
