[WATCH] Swimmer paddles for his life with giant crocodile in hot pursuit

The decision of a teenage boy to swim at a lake prohibited for swimming turned out to be nightmarish.

This developed after the boy was chased by a 10-foot crocodile as he swam back to shore in the waters of Sian Ka’an, Mexico.

In a YouTube video, the boy can be seen being chased by the crocodile as he swims back to shore after taking a dip in the lake. The chase scene between the boy and the crocodile who wants to attack him was also witnessed by onlookers at a nearby vantage point. Luckily for the boy, one of the onlookers hurled a large object right at the nose of the croc as the animal was almost near the boy.

At that instance, out of surprise, the crocodile decides to stop the chase and just move away. Luckily for the boy in this video he was able to make it to shore with all his body parts intact. Sources said the area where the boy swam is off-limits due to the presence of large crocodiles.

Crocodiles (subfamily Crocodylinae) or true crocodiles are large aquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. Crocodylinae, in which all its members are considered true crocodiles, is classified as a biological subfamily.  A broader sense of the term crocodile, Crocodylidae that includes Tomistoma, is not used in this article. The term crocodile here applies only to the species within the subfamily of Crocodylinae.

The term is sometimes used even more loosely to include all extant members of the order Crocodilia, which includes Tomistoma, the alligators and caimans (family Alligatoridae), the gharials (family Gavialidae), and all other living and fossil Crocodylomorpha. Although they appear to be similar to the untrained eye, crocodiles, alligators and the gharial belong to separate biological families.
