Duterte wants to kill person behind Duterte-for-president movement

September 22, 2014 Philippine Local News

Tough talking Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte has become more uncomfortable as calls for him to run as president in 2016 mounts.

In his weekly Sunday television program Gikan Sa Masa, Para sa Masa (From the masses, for the masses) on a local ABS-CBN channel, Duterte jokingly said that he wants to kill whoever is behind the movement to make him run for President in the 2016 elections. Duterte in his usual tough and funny words said he would rather die than enter Malacañang as the next president of the Philippines.

“Don’t be misled, I’m not running, some people suspect that I am behind the moves,” Duterte said. He also called on prospective financiers not to be fooled by people who are seeking to make him run as president since he has no aspiration to land such lofty national position.

“Do not get swayed. I’m not running, I don’t need your money,” he said. Duterte said he had no idea who started the move for him to run as president, but that person would suffer his wrath if he will face him.

“I don’t know who started it, but if I knew him, I would want to kill him,” the tough talking mayor said.

The longest serving mayor of Davao City said he has no heart to seek the presidency since his heart only belongs to his constituents. Duterte’s reluctance to run for the presidency did not stop some movements to call for his entry in the presidential race in 2016.

Moves to urge Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run for presidency is gathering steam as the 2016 national and local election draws near. According to reports, the nationwide signature campaign calling for Duterte to run for the country’s highest position has so far gathered 11 million signatures.  Mar Masanguid, a barangay captain in Davao City and the prime mover of the Duterte for president movement, said many people are working all over the country to get the signatures to urge Duterte to run without any financial compensation for their action.

Masanguid said many local government officials have also pledged to support Duterte for president, but he refused to name these people since 2016 is still two years away. He said lawyer Aimee Neri, the national head of the women sector of the political party PDP (Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino), has also pledged support for the potential presidential bid of Duterte.

Sources said many people in the Philippines are urging Duterte to run due to his tough stance against criminality. Many sectors believe with Duterte as president, the days of criminals operating in the Philippines could be over since he will run and punish them.
