La Salle ace Teng is now dengue-free

Defending champion La Salle can heave a sigh of relief ahead of their virtual best-of-three Final Four series with Far Eastern University after Jeron Teng was discharged yesterday due to a mild case of dengue.

Teng’s manager Paula Punla said that the star forward was given a clean bill of health by doctors after he and older brother Jeric Teng of Rain or Shine spent the last few days in the hospital recovering from the mosquito-borne disease.

The 6-foot-2 Teng had actually been confined as early as last week but temporarily left the hospital bed to play in the Green Archers’ 68-56 victory over the National University Bulldogs last Saturday.

“Actually na-confine na siya before nung last game nila,” Punla said. “Lumabas lang siya para maglaro against NU, tapos binalik siya sa hospital after two days kasi mahina yung katawan niya.”

La Salle Coach Juno Sauler said that Teng missed the last three practices and may rejoin the team today in preparation for the Green Archers’ clash with the Tamaraws on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“The team’s focus has been always there, wala nga lang si Jeron,” said Sauler.

The winner of the La Salle-FEU tussle will earn the No. 2 spot and a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four. The two teams finished tied for second place in the elimination round at 10-4, with the Tams earning a slight advantage over the Archers for winning all of their two elims matches.
