Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has asked his council to look into the possibility of allowing same-sex marriage in the city.

This, after the city council approved an Anti-Discrimination Ordinance which aims to provide equal rights to all members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

“Kasi kunwari mag-boyfriend sila tapos may namatay [sa] either of the partners. ‘Yung pinag-ipunan nilang mga gamit, napupunta lang sa ibang mga tao at hindi naiiwan dun sa partner niya so parang we want to protect their rights,” Bautista explained in an interview on radio DZMM.

The mayor also takes pride in being the first city in the country to have an anti-discrimination ordinance.

The ordinance protects members of the LGBT community from discrimination in offices and schools, as well as in availing of services and products.

Violators of the ordinance will also be given appropriate punishment as stated in the ordinance.

Bautista also said the council will look into the establishment of restrooms for members of the LGBT community.

“It could be a unisex CR para hindi naman extra gastos sa mga establishment. Siguro designating an area that makes it common for the use of both genders,” Bautista added.
