VP Binay slams gov’t for ‘selective justice,’ expresses sympathy for Gloria

October 17, 2014 Philippine Local News

Vice President Jejomar Binay slammed his critics anew in his speech at the 5th MCLE (Mandatory Continuing Legal Education) Accredited National Convention of Public Attorneys at the Manila Hotel.

Ironic predicament

The 71-year-old Binay’s heated speech was seen by pundits as his symbolic break from the fold of President Noynoy Aquino.

Ironically, at the same event, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) gave Binay an “Outstanding Vice President” trophy.

Criticizing the administration

However, Binay’s newly received award didn’t deter him from blasting the administration.

“There is selective justice. Kaming oposisyon ang laging tina-target,” Binay stated. “Matapos mapakulong ‘yung tatlo (sina Senador Bong Revilla, Juan Ponce Enrile at Jinggoy Estrada), wala na. Si Secretary Abad, ayaw magbigay ng dokumento ng DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program). Si General Purisima…walang kaso.”

Binay went on to express his sympathy for former President and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He pointed out, “Kababaing tao, naging presidente, may sakit pa, tama ba iyan? Palagay ko hindi tama iyan.”

Mad at Mercado

Once again, Binay declared that he will not be showing up at the Senate for the probe on the Makati City Hall Building II.

“I won’t dignify that kind of proceeding by attending it. Ladies and gentlemen, I am the vice president of the Republic of the Philippines,” he said.

As for his accuser, former Makati City vice mayor Ernesto Mercado, Binay had this to say: “Itong testigong ito pinalamon ko po sa kamay ko iyan. Umiiyak pa iyan. Nangyari lamang po iyan (Mercado’s accusations) kasi noong matalo s’ya, nawalan s’ya ng delihensya.”
