AFP eyes Atty. Harry Roque’s disbarment

November 1, 2014 Philippine Local News

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) plans to file a complaint for the possible disbarment Atty. Harry Roque.

Roque is the lawyer of the family of slain transgender Jennifer Laude.

Last October 22, Roque — along with Laude’s fiance Marc Sueselbeck and members of the Laude family — entered a restricted area at the Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters on October 22 and demanded that they see US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton.

The possible complaint against Roque will be filed at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, AFP public affairs chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said in a statement.

An initial statement sent by Cabunoc said the AFP will file a case against Roque. His office later issued a revised version saying the military “is strongly considering the filing of a formal complaint against him…if warranted. ”

“The bases for this complaint are his inappropriate actions inside camp premises during the intrusion incident on October 22,” Cabunoc said.

“He is a brilliant lawyer who should be an epitome of discipline and respect for law and order.  We expect the IBP to take appropriate sanctions (like disbarment),” he added.

“We don’t want him to misbehave inside military camps and subject our soldiers to his tirades again,” Cabunoc said.

Roque said he will answer the AFP’s complaint at the IBP.

“I look forward to answering the complaint of AFP before the IBP. They will hopefully stop their tirades which I consider as a threat to my security,” he said.
