Man dies after falling off ‘overcrowded’ bus

November 21, 2014 Philippine Local News

A man was killed after he fell off the bus he was riding on and got hit by the very same vehicle on the northbound lane of EDSA near P. Tuazon Avenue in Cubao, Quezon City.

The victim was identified as Roberto Taberao, Jr. The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19.

According to a report from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Taberao fell off a Fairview-bound Elena Transit bus.

Witnesses said that the bus had been full.

John Taguba-Acera, the bus driver, said he did not notice that he hit someone. He only stopped the bus when the other passengers called his attention. Taguba-Acera then surrendered to the authorities.

Police are reminding commuters to be careful when they’re in a hurry, and when squeezing themselves into a crowded bus. They’re also reminding bus drivers to close their bus doors.

Although Taberao’s death was an accident, Taguba-Acera is facing a reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charge.
