The ever bold and fiesty Ma. Isabel Lopez, former BB. Pilipinas Universe titleholder finally broke her silence and echoes the sentiments of hundreds of thousands of Pinoy pageant fanatics on issues regarding MJ’s gown and national costume.
Her bold comment was directly pointed to Stella Araneta, the matriarch of BPCI whom according to Lopez always fancied the works of her [Araneta] compatriot Alfredo Barraza in dressing the Filipina queens.
She further adds that it was a big slap on the local designers face to see Filipinas dressed by foreign designers.”Sampal ‘yun sa ating mga local designers. Nobody could interpret the national costumes except Filipinos themselves”.
When asked about MJ’s gown, she further lamented that it was really ill-designed and was not good for MJ.”Yung evening [gown] competition na ang haba haba ng figure ni MJ , nagkaroon ng cut (iyong gown). Tapos naka-white . Imbes na humaba ang kanyang svelte figure, na shorten ‘yung figure nya tuloy”.
