[UAAP77] La Salle sets title rematch vs Ateneo

March 7, 2015 Philippine Sports News

De La Salle University (DLSU) bounced back against National University (NU) on Saturday in their stepladder semis by beating the Lady Bulldogs, 3 sets to 1, to set a title clash against Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) in Season 77 UAAP women’s volleyball.

The Lady Spikers claimed the first set, 26-24, but the Roger Gorayeb-coached Lady Bulldogs evened the scores by taking the following period, 21-25.

La Salle stepped up its game in the next two sets, 25-18, 25-21, to settle the do-or-die match and claim the remaining Finals berth.

The Lady Spikers’ victory, however, came with a price.

Ara Galang, who led La Salle with 25 points on 21 attacks, sustained an injury after an awkward fall in the fourth set. The four-year veteran twisted her left knee on her way down after launching an attack against NU’s defense.

Galang was seen crying in pain while she was being stretchered off the court.

NU, which was written off as contenders after starting the season at 2-3, dragged the second-seeded La Salle to a rubber match with a stunning 3-set victory last Wednesday.

But La Salle refused to be denied as it eventually closed out the Lady Bulldogs.

De Jesus hopes that Galang’s injury is not serious, as she is one of their core players needed against the Lady Eagles.

”’Wag naman sanang maging masama ang pagkaka-injure ni Ara,” he said.

La Salle will be squaring off against Ateneo in the Finals starting Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Lady Eagles, who swept the double-round eliminations, last played on Feb. 18 and are training hard despite the long break.
