Phl can’t afford to have inexperienced leader – Binay

May 18, 2015 Philippine Local News

Vice President Jejomar Binay warned Filipinos yesterday that electing a president without experience and competence in 2016 would perpetuate the problems besetting the country.

In a statement, Binay said he believes that the issue in the coming election, particularly the presidency, is experience and competence.

“We can’t take risks,” he said. “We have undergone and are still undergoing so many things that could not have been serious problems were it not for the fact that one does not have experience and competence.”

Binay said he is determined to run for president in 2016 despite the corruption charges he is facing.

He wants to bring experience and competence to the national leadership, he added.

There is no turning back for him as far as his presidential aspiration is concerned, Binay said.

Earlier Binay said he believes that the next president must have a vast experience and a long track record in governance and in dealing with crises.

The latest Social Weather Stations  (SWS) survey showed that Binay remains the top presidential contender for 2016.

The survey, taken from March 20 to 23, showed second-placer Sen. Grace Poe enjoying a big increase from her previous 21 percent rating in December to 31 percent in March.

Binay remained on top with 36 percent, a point drop from 37 percent in December.

Poe was reportedly being groomed to be the administration’s presidential or vice presidential bet in 2016.
