Ai-Ai defends Vilma from online ‘grammar police’

July 2, 2014 Showbiz News

No one, not even Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos can escape the vicious environment in social media.

The 60-year-old actress-politician drew flak from grammar-conscious netizens when Kris Aquino had her note shared over Instagram on Monday, June 30.

“Dearest Kris, Thank you sooo much for believing in me. I truely (sic) appreciate it friend,” the card from the Batangas governor read. “Life is short… Enjoy it… Your are so bless (sic).”

The card also came with a box of ensaymada.

“Super sarap Ensaymadas from my Idol sa trabaho, serbisyo publiko & sa pag handle ng personal na buhay, sa pagiging mabuti at mapagmahal na asawa at nanay! Thank You Ate Vi,” Kris captioned.

Forced to leave Twitter

Ai-Ai de las Alas believes her fellow Vilmanian should’ve not posted the note to begin with.

“Sana next time hindi na lang. Minsan ‘pag idol mo ‘yung isang tao proteksyunan mo na lang,” she told the media on Tuesday (July 1) at the launch of “Macho Gwapita,” her upcoming concert with Rico J. Puno at Solaire Resort and Casino.

“Na-huhurt ako for her. Nasasaktan ako kasi minsan may mga bagay na hindi naman kailangan. ‘Yung minsang nagkakamali tayo… Hindi naman kailangan i-bash siya ng dahil lang dun.”

Ai Ai, referring to vicious netizens, added, “Unang-una, what for? Hindi naman sila ‘yung sinulatan?”

The actress-comedienne said she was forced to leave micro-blogging site Twitter due to anonymous bashers repeatedly cursing her during her judging stint in the reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent.”

“Kasi ang social media, sila lang any may karapatang mag-gaganyan dahil hindi mo naman sila kilala, ‘yun lang naman ang gusto nila e.”

Vilma thanks bashers

Despite her stature, Gov. Vi was quick to take those criticisms constructively.

“Hi Kris… I am being bashed because of your Instagram post. Hahaha,” Vilma told Kris in a private text message, which the Queen of All Media posted on the photo-sharing site.

“I guess marami pa akong dapat matutunan.”

Vilma thanked the bashers and conceded she’s also human and commits mistakes.

Why post it?

Kris, meanwhile, shared some of the online punches because of what others perceive as over-sharing.

Some netizens also reckoned that as someone who’s particular with grammar, the English Literature graduate from Ateneo should be aware that posting the note would just invite bashers and grammar cops.
The Yahoo Celebrity Awards’ Social Media Star of the Year nominee recognized the fault and told her idol, “I’m sorry Ate Vi. I didn’t think about the wrong spelling because what mattered to me was your kindness & the thought behind the card.”
