Aiza Seguerra, Liza Diño to tie the knot twice

August 18, 2014 Showbiz News

Call them soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Seguerra.

After getting engaged early this year, Aiza Seguerra and Liza Diño are getting married twice in the next couple of months—between September and October in the United States, and in January next year in the Philippines.

The two have openly discussed Aiza’s sexual identity recently, clarifying that the singer-actor now considers himself a transgender man.

Speaking to “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Thursday, August 14, the 30-year-old Aiza further explained the two varying gender identities.

“Ang lesbians kasi ay women na ang sexual preference nila ay women also. Ang transgender naman ay iba ‘yung gender identity namin sa assigned sa akin.”

This makes it clear that Aiza is not a lesbian. And Liz, his future wife is straight: “Hindi niya ako tinitingnan as a woman.”

However, Aiza added that gender reassignment is not his priority at the moment.

Marrying not once, but twice

Liza, who was named Miss Tourism International 2001, took a short trip to Los Angeles last month to work on the legal documents of their upcoming wedding there.

Liza has been a U.S. resident since she migrated there with her former husband in 2008. She has a six-year-old daughter from a previous marriage that lasted five years.

“Sa U.S. puro mga friends namin na nandodoon. We’re not flying anyone kasi (except their parents). Medyo tight kasi ‘yung budget namin,” Aiza told Yahoo Philippines at the gala screening of Carlos Siguion-Reyna’s “Hari ng Tondo,” winner of the Special Jury Prize at the just-concluded Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

Wedding preps

The theater-movie actress shared that Aiza has been very hands-on in preparing their rustic-themed wedding.

“Nakakatuwa kasi ‘yung stylist namin si Blue Barn, si Direk Marlon Rivera magaling talaga sila sa details.”

While the legal wedding will be in the U.S., the “symbolic” one happens January next year “somewhere south” of the Philippines, the couple said.

A close friend of Aiza and Liza had himself ordained just to officiate the wedding.

“Meron kaming kaibigan who has witnessed our relationship, nagpa-ordain siya para lang siya mag-officiate ng wedding.”

Artificial insemination

Aiza is excited at the impending wedding, even while the logistics and paperwork have been a concern for them.

“Very excited kasi akala nila hindi na ko ikakasal e,” Aiza described his parents’ reaction. “Bihira naman akong ikasal sa buhay ko. Ayoko nang ikasal pang muli bukod sa kanya.”

Liza said her six-year-old daughter will be her “little bride.” Aiza maintains a good relationship with the child, but told Yahoo they have yet to talk about whether or not he’ll adopt her daughter eventually.

The couple earlier told “The Buzz” they are keen on undergoing artificial insemination as medical alternative to having a baby.

The egg will be coming from Aiza, while Liza is tasked to carry the child. The couple, however, decided to keep the sperm donor anonymous.

“Initially we were thinking na siguro a friend of ours para siguro kilala namin. Kaso baka maging mas complicated siya in the process,” Liza told the ABS-CBN Sunday talk show.

Standing up for the LGBT community

The “Pagdating ng Panahon” hitmaker is now pushing for the rights of the LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transponders) community, especially now that he finally realized his real gender orientation.

In fact, part of the proceeds of Aiza’s upcoming concert with his fiancée will be used to produce a film promoting awareness about the LGBT community.

The couple’s concert dubbed “High on Love,” set August 22 at the Music Museum, will detail their love story that began in 1998.

It was on February 7 this year when Aiza proposed to Liza while she was performing in a stage play at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
