October 8, 2014 Showbiz News

Mary Christine Jolly—the estranged wife of actor Derek Ramsay—filed on Wednesday, October 8, a concubinage complaint against him and actress Angelica Panganiban at the Parañaque Prosecutor’s Office.

Ramsay and Panganiban were in a relationship that lasted six years. They have since broken up.

Facts on concubinage

Under Article 334 of the Revised Penal Code, concubinage can be filed against a husband “who shall keep a mistress in the conjugal dwelling, or shall have sexual intercourse, under scandalous circumstances, with a woman who is not his wife, or shall cohabit with her in any other place.”

If found guilty, the husband may be imprisoned from six months to six years, while the mistress may be prohibited from being within 25 kilometers of the husband for a specified length of time.

Earlier complaint

In August, Jolly lodged a complaint against Ramsay for allegedly violating Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act.

She is seeking P42 million in damages for child and spouse support.

According to Jolly, she and Ramsay met in 2001, and were married in 2002 in Balagtas, Bulacan—claims the actor confirmed in his counter-affidavit.

Jolly said she and Ramsay eventually separated due to disagreements. She went on to live in Dubai, where she raised their son by herself. She said she decided to contact Ramsay again after their son, now 11, asked about him as he was growing up.

In an earlier statement, Ramsay said he only confirmed that the boy introduced to her by Jolly was indeed his son in August 2011. He only admitted fathering the child last August, when Jolly surfaced to take their spat to court.

Ramsay and Panganiban’s relationship

Ramsay and Panganiban broke up in February 2012, according to the actress in an interview withStar Studio magazine published in 2013.

Among the reasons that led to the breakup, Panganiban said, were three major conflicts—Ramsay’s being allegedly a controlling boyfriend, his supposed lack of support for the actress’ mission to find her biological father, and his then-rumored marriage to Jolly.
