Dutertes blast Ramon Bautista for calling Davao City women ‘hipon’

The supposedly jovial mood of a rave party to celebrate Kadayawan festival or the celebration of bountiful harvest in Davao City took a different twist on Saturday.

This developed after popular Filipino comedian Ramon Bautista called women partygoers as “hipon” when he took the stage as one of the guests in the party.

“Hipon” or shrimp is a colloquial term for a person who is only attractive from the neck down.

The joke which tends to degrade the women in Davao City angered two of the children of Davao City Rodrigo Duterte who happens to be in attendance of the same party. Vice mayor Paulo Duterte and his elder sister former mayor Sara Duterte felt offended in behalf of the women for the said joke especially that it is done during the city’s bountiful harvest celebration.

The vice mayor immediately confronted Ramon Bautista for his controversial joke and told him that they are not happy with his joke.

Realizing his mistake, Bautista went back to the stage to apologize for calling Davao’s women as “hipon”.

“I’m here in front of you to say my apologies because sinabi ko maraming hipon dito. Nahihiya po ako sa inyo kasi you welcomed me here in your beautiful city,” Bautista said. (I’m here in front of you to say my apologies because I said that many of you looked like shrimps. I am embarrassed because you welcomed mere here in your beautiful city.)

On her Facebook account, Sara Duterte is very annoyed with the joke of Bautista.

“Attended this Kadayawan Invasion and heard this (Ramon Bautista) guy say “hipon” ang mga babae sa Davao,”Duterte said.

She also urged city councilors on her Facebook friends list to ban Bautista in the city. According to reports, out of angr, Sara reportedly told her brother to declare Bautista as persona non grata in Davao City.

In the social media many Davaoenos were also not pleased with the statement of Bautista saying Davao City women are not hipon, but pretty. The netizens said saying that Davao women are hipon is degrading to them especially that you said it in their own place.
