Lilybeth Rasonable, GMA-7’s senior vice president for entertainment, has denied that negotiations are underway to sign up Sharon Cuneta with the Kapuso network.
“Just to make it clear kasi nga ang dami naming nababasang gano’n. Walang negotiation na nagyayari at nangyari. At walang feelers rin naman [from her camp],” she told Yahoo Philippines on Tuesday, September 9, at the sidelines of the presscon for the network’s upcoming primetime series “Strawberry Lane.”
The clarification came three weeks after the Megastar severed ties with TV5, her home network of almost three years.
‘Sharon Cuneta is Sharon Cuneta’
Sharon’s original 5-year contract, said to have a price tag of P1 billion, was pre-terminated on August 18—citing “a host of unresolved issues” which TV5 and the actress intend to resolve “privately between the parties themselves or, if necessary, through an appropriate formal proceeding.”
Asked if the Kapuso network has room for the Megastar, Rasonable said: “Of course, Sharon Cuneta is Sharon Cuneta. She’s still the Megastar. Her talent will be always something good to have.”
But the GMA executive was quick to reiterate that her statement should not be mistaken for an admission that the network is interested in the 48-year-old actress.
Sharon has been a long-time GMA talent until she transferred to rival network ABS-CBN in 1998. She remained a Kapamilya until she jumped over to the TV5 fence in 2010.
On Aljur Abrenica
Meanwhile, GMA faces its own pre-termination issue with its homegrown talent, Aljur Abrenica.
A product of GMA talent search “Starstruck,” the 24-year-old TV star sued his home network in July to effectively cut his contract that has yet to expire in 2017.
However, Rasonable would rather not comment on whether or not GMA would opt to settle the issue out of court.
“That’s not for me to say because it’s now with our lawyers.”
