Jason Dy wins ‘Voice PH’

Jason Dy of Team Sarah was named the winner of the second season of “The Voice of the Philippines” on Sunday during the hit TV show’s grand finale at Resorts World Manila.

Dy, a professional “haranista,” received 52.94% of the votes to beat Alisah Bonaobra of Teap Apl as the two artists faced off for a final showdown after garnering the highest percentage of text and online votes.

Before the poll for the top two artists opened, their individual scores were reset to zero. In the end, the artist who got the higher percentage of public votes was named the winner of “The Voice of the Philippines.”

Team Bamboo’s Rence Rapanot and Team Lea’s Leah Patricio were the other two contestants in the Top 4 in the much-awaited finale of ABS-CBN’s hit talent search.

Patricio and Rapanot got 19.17% and 18.02% of the votes, respectively, before scores were reset for Bonaobra and Dy.

“Daghang salamat sa inyong tanan. Maraming, maraming salamat. Thank you so much. Lord, you are amazing. Thank you. God bless po sa inyong lahat,” an emotional Dy told the ecstatic crowd before doing a reprise of his Top 2 performance of “Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin.”

Before he was announced as winner, his coach, Sarah Geronimo, said it is difficult to find an artist like Dy.

“Napakahirap makahanap ng artist na hindi kinakailangang bumirit para lang ma-touch ang puso mo habang kumakanta siya. That is Jason, that is special about Jason. He is the voice of today, he is a world-class talent, and his voice deserves to be heard all over the world,” Geronimo said.

The ‘haranista’ from Butuan City

This 23-year-old from Butuan City has made a living out of singing. He’s a professional “haranista” and was a demo artist for a time. Dy hopes that by winning “The Voice,” he will have his turn to get demo copies of songs for his own album.

Dy impressed all coaches but Bamboo in the blind auditions, where he sang “Stay With Me.” He emerged the winner in his “On Bended Knees” face-off with Daniel Ombao, and continued to impress his coach in the knockouts, where he performed “Jar of Hearts” against Carol Leus and Douglas Dagal.

In the live shows, Dy also won Geronimo’s and the public’s approval with “Thinking Out Loud,” “OMG,” “Kahit Kailan” and “Back at One.”

“Masayang maging haranista dahil napapakilig ko ang mga inaawitan ko,” Dy said. “Pero mas masayang kumanta sa mas malaking entablado dahil napaparating ko sa mas maraming tao ang nararamdaman ko.”

Star-studded performances

Dy’s victory capped a star-studded finale for the successful TV talent show, which topped the worldwide trending topics of micro-blogging site Twitter during its two-part grand finale.

On Saturday’s live performance night, the Top 4 shared the stage with music icons like Dulce, Joey Ayala, Bayang Barrios, Jed Madela and Charice.

The Top 4 finalists also performed a duet with their respective coaches on Sunday.

Dy won a P2 million in cash, a house and lot, a new car, a music instrument package, a business package, an Asian tour package for two and a recording and managing contract with MCA Music.
