Although Enrique Gil has apologized for his behavior on the flight going to London, details of the misbehavior are slowly coming out. Given that Gil was drunk and was causing tension for some passengers, questions on the application of flight regulations are being raised.
According to Section 1 (Objectionable Conduct) of Article 12 (Conduct Aboard Aircraft) of the General Conditions of Carriage of Philippine Airlines,‘if a passenger conducts himself or herself aboard the aircraft so as to endanger the aircraft or any person…. , or behaves in a manner to which other Passengers may reasonably object, Carrier may take such measures as it deems reasonably necessary to prevent continuation of such conduct, including restraint or offloading of the Passenger.’
Based on details from his public apology, Gil’s behavior violated this provision. Allegedly, Gil was quite drunk that he seemed to be a different person at that moment. As he kept bugging actress Jessy Mendiola, he kept touching her shoulder and calling her ‘b****,’ ‘w****,’ and ‘u***’ repeatedly. Some sources say that the b-word is often mouthed off by Gil when he gets drunk. Even screen partner Liza Soberano was not spared, as he called her “you f*$#*%& bi$%h!” when she tried to pacify him.
The flight attendant called the cockpit to inform the pilot of the impending altercation at the area, and the pilot said that they will have Gil arrested. The flight personnel had already intended to follow protocol and have Gil arrested the moment they land at their destination. However, this decision was put on hold as network executives requested that the actor be spared from arrest in London.
Incidentally, the effect of alcohol high above ground is thrice the effect of alcohol being drank on ground. Thus, getting drunk is easier while flying.
