TV host Valerie Weigmann to represent PH in Miss World 2014

Valerie Weigmann, host of GMA-7 noontime show “Eat Bulaga,” was crowned Miss World Philippines Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena—taking over the reins at Megan Young, last year’s winner and the reigning Miss World.

During the highly-anticipated but oftentimes dreaded Q&A portion, Valerie said she wants to inspire others to take up personal advocacy when asked why she should be Miss World.

“I believe in the importance of empathy and compassion because I see, if all of us can all come together, we can all be advocates of change. And I want to inspire and encourage everyone to take up personal advocacy.”

Representing the Bicol region in the national beauty search, the 24-year-old TV host/restaurateur has big shoes to fill as she represents the country in the London-based pageant come December where the first Filipina Miss World currently sits on the throne.

Val loves to hang out and travel with her friends. She is a co-owner of a German-Turkish restaurant in Makati. She is also involved in social enterprise and in promoting the use of electronic vehicles in the Philippines.

Val loves to collect comic books. She loves graphic novels and Marvel movies based on the comics. She has worked behind the camera as a photographer’s assistant. Val is passionate about travel photography.

Her advocacy is Musikaramay, a movement she started with her friends after super typhoon Yolanda. Through Musikaramay, they are raising funds to helps indigenous peoples; specifically, the Aetas of Tarlac. Val really wants to help them especially when it comes to their livelihood and healthcare.

Val believes that all of the Miss World Philippines 2014 candidates are winners just by joining the pageant. She also believes that a Miss World Philippines titleholder should focus on what other people are going thru, and that she should be able to place herself in other people’s shoes.

For Val, the message of Miss World Philippines is all about being considerate and she believes that, with the crown, she can raise awareness and inspire others to take up their own advocacies.
