[WATCH] Emotional Charice Pempengco sings “Maghintay Ka Lamang” with Mommy Raquel

Charice Pempengco reunites with her mother, Raquel Pempengco on ASAP 19, Sunday, as they shared the stage to sing their own rendition of “Maghintay Ka Lamang.”

Charice came out smiling and confident as she starts to let her heart out while singing on ASAP stage. But as soon as her mommy Raquel joins her, the 22-year-old YouTube sensation started to become teary-eyed.

It took more than a year before Charice reconciled with her mommy Raquel. The two drifted apart after Charice came out as a lesbian on national TV and her mother strongly disapproved her relationship with Alyssa Quijano.

After the production number, Charice thanked her mother for welcoming her back.

“Two weeks pa ako umuwi pero hindi pa ako nagiging emotional sa kanya. Hindi pa ako nakapagpasalamat sa lahat kasi nahihiya ako. I just want to say that everything, kung sino man ako ngayon, lahat ‘yun, ‘yung lakas ng loob nakuha ko sa ‘yo. Kahit na ano man ang nangyari dati, ito pa rin tayo nasa harap ng buong mundo, sinasabi natin sa kanila na kahit anong masama ang inisip nila sa atin, akala nila hindi tayo magkakaayos, pamilya pa rin tayo,” Charice said.

(It’s been two weeks since I came home but I’ve never been emotional towards her until now. I’ve not thanked everyone yet as I feel too embarrassed. I just want to say that everything, whoever I’ve become now, everything, my strength, – I learned it all from you. Whatever happened in the past, here we are facing the world. That no matter how bad they think about us, and how we will never be able to fix this up, we are still a family.)

The singer hopes that other people would be inspired by how she and her mother showed the importance of family.

“[Sana] maging role model tayo sa kanila na kahit anong problema sa mundo, basta pamilya kayo, walang problemang hindi maso-solve. I love you. I love you, Karl. I love you, Alyssa (Quijano, her girlfriend). I love you, daddy. I am very happy and this is the best achievement that I could ever have in my life,” she said.

(I hope people will see us as role models, that no matter what problems come our way, there is nothing we can solve as a family.)

Mrs. Pempengco, on the other hand, said she loves Charice just the same despite everything that happened and she was just waiting for the right time to reunite with her.

“Ang masasabi ko lang po, gaano man katagal lumipas ang panahon, basta nandito lang ako naghihintay sa mga anak ko na bumalik pa rin sa akin. Para ipaalam ko lang sa lahat, kahit anong nangyari, mahal na mahal ko pa rin kayo,” she said.
