[WATCH] Lea takes the ice bucket challenge and you have to see it

August 22, 2014 Showbiz News

Lea Salonga just got dumped on by husband Robert Chien.

But only for a cause.

On Thursday, Salonga’s husband dumped a whole bucket of ice water on the Broadway star’s head to raise awareness for ALS.

Viral

ALS stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosisa motor neuron disease that causes nerve cells to gradually break down and die .

It’s also become the cause behind the viral Ice Bucket Challenge, in which celebrities of every stripe (from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to Justin Timberlake to former US president George W. Bush) agree to dump a bucket of cold water on themselves…or else donate $100 to the ALS Association.

In turn, celebrities who’ve accepted the dare nominate 3 more people to take on the challenge within 24 hours.

Nominated by Il Divo

Salonga was nominated by Urs Bühler of Il Divo, she said on her video.

“There’s actually one big reason why I wanted to do this Ice Bucket Challenge because an uncle of my husband, who’s standing behind me with the bucket, passed away from ALS not very long ago,” Salonga explained.

“His name was Tommy Lee and it is out of love for him that we’re doing this—well, I’m the one who’s going to be drenched and he’s the one doing the drenching,” she added, as she pointed upwards to her husband, who stood on a ledge with only his feet visible.

Lea challenges other celebs

Before she got wet, however, she passed on the challenge to “a long list” of fellow celebrities.

“Number one, my friend from ‘Glee,’ Mr. Darren Criss. You have to do this within 24 hours of seeing this message or you have to donate to alsa.org. But do both, you can actually do this,” she said.

“The second one: Aga Muhlach. I would like for you to do this challenge also. It is for a very important cause,” she continued. Muhlach was linked to Salonga back in the day.

“Finally, I would like to challenge my fellow ‘Voice of the Philippines’ coaches: apl.de.ap, Bamboo and Sarah Geronimo.”

She reiterated her call for donations to support the cause of ALS, which she said is “an absolutely devastating disease” that impacts not just the afflicted but the family as well.
