Although Miss Colombia was humiliated on live television when she had her Miss Universe crown taken away, her post-pageant reactions have been relatively calm. But in a new interview, she totally slammed Miss Universe, calling them out for not caring about her feelings!
Ariadna Gutierrez, 22, also known as Miss Colombia in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, was part of one of the most shocking moments of the year when she was de-crowned after Steve Harvey announced the winner at the Dec. 20 competition. While it was a heartbreaking moment for Ariadna, it was also extremely embarrassing, and she is finally speaking out about how the whole situation was handled — and she didn’t hold anything back!
“In four minutes they destroy your dreams. They throw it in the bag and they throw it in the trash,” Ariadna told Univision in an interview with the Spanish-language network. “They couldve done it another way. I feel like it doesn’t matter to them, the feelings of a girl who has worked her whole life for a dream.”
Yikes, there is clearly still some bitterness with Ariadna after the major mishap! From the second Steve stepped back on the stage to announce that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was actually the winner, the 2015 host has apologized profusely. The organization also issued a public apology to both Ariadna and Pia. But from the sounds of it, even the sincerest apology can’t completely help Ariadna’s hurt feelings…or her anger toward the pageant!
While Ariadna initially issued a gracious statement saying it was her “destiny” for her to briefly bring joy to her country before having the crown taken away, she also couldn’t help admitting that it was “very humiliating” for her and her country. She revealed that she has cried many tears over the ordeal, but it seems her sadness may be turning to frustration!
There has been speculation that Steve mispronounced the winner for ratings or even to boost his own fame, which would definitely mean that Ariadna’s feelings were not taken into consideration. But Steve has shut down those rumors, asking “Why the hell would I do that?”
Plus, Pia made sure to express her sympathy for Ariadna with a sweet message on her Facebook. “You are an amazing woman and we are now bonded together forever by a unique experience,” Pia wrote. “In the last 3 weeks we were together, I saw how strong and beautiful you are inside and out. You represented your country with honor and I know how proud everyone must be of you. Fate has a plan for you, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.” Even if Ariadna never forgives Miss Universe for the way they handled the situation, hopefully Pia makes Ariadna feel a little better!
