[WATCH] Samsung has gone back to bashing Apple in its new ads for the Galaxy S6 Edge

June 6, 2015 Showbiz News / Technology

Samsung just released two 30-second TV commercials which set out to prove that the Galaxy S6 Edge is better than the iPhone 6, Apple Insider reports.

They are reminiscent of Samsung’s classic “next big thing” ads from 2011, when the company attacked Apple and its iPhone customers as delusional fanboy losers trapped by the aura of Apple’s brand when better phones were available.

The first new ad touts the Edge’s flexible OLED display, which wraps part way round both sides of the handset, and can light up or display notifications.

Samsung’s ad places the two phones next to each other to demonstrate Edge Lighting, which lights up the curved sides of the screen when the Edge is placed faced down and one of your top five contacts calls.

In the meantime, the iPhone 6 just sits there:

As AppleInsider points out, the ad doesn’t say that iPhone users can set their LED flash to light up as an alert when the iPhone 6 is face down on a surface.

Here’s the message you’ve always wanted from your grandma:

Samsung has also decided that you can never have too wide a selfie, and has fitted the S6 with a wide-angle, front-facing camera. Samsung’s second ad goes on to mock the narrowness of those taken using the iPhone 6.

If you don’t mind losing someone’s face in a selfie, or tend to look at the front of your phone rather than the side, neither of these will seem all that big of a deal. However, as the latter ad points out, the Samsung’s latest phone does have wireless charging though, something that Apple has been working on for the Apple Watch.

This only the last in a long list of Samsung ads bashing at Apple, including hits against the iPhone’s battery life and display. A previous ad for the Galaxy S6 Edge also looked oddly familiar, copying one of Apple’s ads for its Apple Watch almost frame by frame.
