September 27, 2014 History

President Elpidio Quirino collapses by the bier of his predecessor, Manuel Roxas in the Ceremonial Hall. This photograph was taken upon Quirino’s arrival at Malacanan Palace to take his oath of office as President in the Council of State Room, Executive Building. Then Vice-President Quirino had been away at sea, on a voyage ironically recommended by his doctor because of fears Quirino might have a heart attack. Instead, President Roxas was the one who died of a heart attack while in office. April, 1948.
