Aegis Malaysia officials meet with PH embassy over video

September 24, 2014 Philippine Local News

Officials of Malaysian BPO company Aegis BPO Sdn Bhd met with Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya to personally convey their company’s apology over a video disparaging the Philippines.

Aegis Senior Vice President-Corporate Divya Dutta and Associate Vice President for Human Resource P. Ganesan said the company did not authorize the uploading of the said video, which was created by a local agency.

The nearly 3-minute video explains why Malaysia is a better choice for investors. The Philippines, on the other hand, is described as disaster-prone and has inadequate infrastructure, among issues. The firm has already pulled out the video, but it can still be viewed on some sites.

The Aegis officials maintained that the company values its relationship with the Philippines.

The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur had earlier sent Aegis a letter asking for an explanation on the release of their video.

“Since acquisition of People Support in 2008, (the) Philippines has been a catalyst for Aegis’ growth,” said the company, which belongs to Indian multinational conglomerate Essar Group.

“We would like to articulate that Aegis has had a wonderful experience in the Philippines — great clients, great leadership team and above all great employees,” it said in a statement posted in its social media accounts.
