September 30, 2014 Philippine Local News

Vice President Jejomar Binay dropped his lead by 10 percentage points but continued to dominate all potential candidates in the 2016 presidential election, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey.

The survey, conducted last September 8 to 5, showed Binay leading the pack with a commanding 31% of Filipinos saying they will vote for him as president if elections were held today.

A total of 1,200 representative adults 18 years old and above participated in the Pulse Asia survey.

This is 10 percentage points lower than the 41% he got in the Pulse Asia survey last June 24 to July 2.

Binay’s supporters

The survey was conducted after the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee started an investigation into the alleged overpricing of the Makati City Hall building 2. The building started construction while Binay was still Makati mayor.

According to the latest survey, Binay had the highest drop of support among Metro Manila (From 44% to 33%) and Visayan respondents (From 37% to 27%).

His support from among Class ABC respondents also dropped from 36% in the last survey to 23% in the latest survey. He lost 10 percentage points from among Class D respondents and 7 percentage points from among Class E respondents.

Who’s No. 2?

In second place is Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas who got 13% or six percentage points higher than the 7% he received in the last survey.

In third place is Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago with 11%. Santiago earlier said she is eyeing a possible presidential bid if she fully recovers from cancer.
