Dead woman dumped in rice field, possibly raped

August 19, 2014 Philippine Local News

Police in Calumpit, Bulacan are hunting down the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of a woman, whose body was dumped in a rice field.

A photo posted on Calumpit Municipal Police Station’s social media accounts showed a female stabbed multiple times–mostly in her neck, as well as her back and nape.

Authorities also think the woman may also have been raped as she was found naked from the waist down at the Barangay Sapang Bayan rice field.

One of the items the police recovered from the crime scene was a screwdriver, which was said to have been used to stab her.

The woman was later identified as Anria Espritu, 26 years old.

Espiritu, was last seen at around 1 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, as she was heading home from a night out. Espiritu’s friends said she boarded a jeepney on her way home.

Espiritu’s mother, Gloria, wasn’t worried at first because Espiritu often slept over at a friend’s house when they went out. But then when the family could no longer contact Espirtu via her cellphone, they got frantic.

It turns out, Espiritu never made it home.

Pressed for information, the jeepney driver visited Espiritu’s wake and said the young woman got down at Bagbag, which was the last time he saw her. He indicated that he was willing to help Espiritu’s family find justice.

Meantime, Espiritu’s family and friends are working closely with the police to shed more light into the case.
