Duterte to Human Rights chair: ‘Stop nagging’

Word war erupted anew between Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chair Etta Rosales. Earlier, Rosales accused Duterte of being “not a good influence” when he commented and issued a statement of support for Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista when he recently slapped twice an arrested drug dealer.

HE SAID, SHE SAID. Mayor Rodrigo Duterte called CHR Chair Etta Rosales a “bad example” after she accused him of being “not a good influence”.

Rosales said Duterte’s comments sent a “wrong signal to law enforcers” and that the Mayor should “shut up”.

But Duterte said Rosales is not in the position to tell him what to do.

“She is not the guardian of the morals of this country. Tell that old lady,” Duterte said when interviewed by the media here during the Pagbukas, a Kadayawan celebratory opening ceremony on Tuesday evening, August 12.

He added that he is only exercising his right as a citizen of this country.

“Wala siyang pakialam. I am a citizen of this republic. I can say what I want. Tell her to stop nagging”, Duterte said, adding that he only acted according to his constitutional right. “Tama ang ginawa ni (Mayor) Herbert (Bautista)”, he said.

Duterte also emphasized that Rosales is a “bad example” given that her name came out in the list of Janet Napoles.

“Do not criticize me because ikaw mismo, yung pangalan mo lumabas doon sa listahan ni (Janet) Napoles na nag-cash advance”, Duterte said.
