Fire hits foot of Mayon Volcano

May 21, 2014 Philippine Local News

A fire occurred at the foot of Mayon Volcano at Santo Domingo town in Albay province in Bicol Tuesday night.
The fire started at about 6 p.m., GMA Bicol quoted the local Office of Civil Defense as saying.
Local authorities advised residents not to venture near the area, according to a report on GMA News’ “Unang Balita” early Wednesday.
“Unang Balita” featured a video from YouScooper John Erik Brutas showing the flames visible from a distance:

While firefighters aboard two fire trucks rushed to the scene, they could not get near the fire because of the dark road.
However, the firefighters said the scene of the fire was far from residential areas.
Authorities are not discounting the fire may have stemmed from a kaingin (local fire), and spread due to the hot weather.
For now, the OCD and Bureau of Fire Protection continue to monitor developments surrounding the fire.
