Gloria Arroyo to seek 9-day furlough following grandson’s death

November 3, 2014 Philippine Local News

Former President and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will ask the Sandiganbayan for a nine-day furlough—or break from being under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City—following the death of‎ her youngest grandson on Sunday, November 2.

The child, Jorge Alonso, was the youngest son of Arroyo’s daughter, Luli Arroyo-Bernas. He was said to have suffered from a congenital heart problem and was just over a year old. He died at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Philippine Heart Center.

Atty. Larry Gadon, a family friend and legal adviser of the former President, said the motion will be filed on Monday, November 3 by Atty. Lawrence Arroyo.

Gadon added that the little boy’s wake will be held at the Bernas house in Makati.
