Rocket Internet backed e-commerce site is in legal proceedings in Manila with Korean brand Etude House
The Philippine distributor of Korean brand Etude House has filed charges against Rocket Internet-backed Lazada over the sale of products online that are allegedly fake.
Rosa Figure House Corp., which operates as Etude House Philippines, published a post on the company’s official Facebook account last night:
“We have not consented to any sale of such products by Lazada.com.ph and and [are] not in any way connected with the website and therefore cannot guarantee the authenticity and/or genuineness of the product sold by the said website,” the statement read.
Etude House Philippines also said it has filed criminal charges in Makati City — Manila’s main financial district — against the responsible corporate officers of Lazada.com.ph for violations of sections of the Philippine Intellectual Property Code, due to the selling of “fake and/or counterfeit Etude House of Korea products.”
On its official website, Lazada said it is “committed to ensure that you shop with confidence on Lazada. All sellers listed on Lazada have passed a thorough selection process in order to guarantee you a high quality shopping experience.”
Lazada, in a response to inquires from e27 over the matter, said it “has a zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliant sellers. In the event of exceptional cases of suspicious products being sold on our platform, we take decisive action, including investigating the merchants and removing the products from our site.”
“We have conducted our investigation into the Marketplace merchant offering Etude House products on Lazada.com.ph,” it also said, adding the seller has already been removed from its site.
The e-commerce site added it has 100 per cent Buyer Protection, Money Back and Satisfaction Guaranteed return policies “to assure customers that they will receive the right product that is new, genuine, and in good quality.”
“We can confirm that there is an on-going legal proceeding between Lazada Philippines and Rosa Fiore House, and we are in no position to comment on the development or outcome of this,” it said.
Lazada, launched in 2012, has operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and a sourcing center in Hong Kong.
