Miriam gives up ICC post

June 3, 2014 Philippine Local News

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has given up her post as International Criminal Court (ICC) judge.

In a letter to ICC president Sang-Hyun Song, Santiago reasoned that she is suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), a condition which she thinks may hamper her performance as ICC judge.

Santiago was elected as ICC judge in December 2011.

The ICC, which is based in The Hague, Netherlands, had already ordered Santiago to report for duty back in September 2013. However, Santiago had asked for more time then, as she was already suffering from her CFS. Back then, she thought she would be able to report to the ICC in January 2014.
