Monday classes suspended in all of NCR, parts of Luzon due to ‘Luis’

(Updated 10:44 p.m.) Some local governments on Sunday announced that classes will be suspended on Monday because of the threat posed by Typhoon Luis (Kalmaegi).

Classes in the following areas have been declared suspended:

Metro Manila

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. has ordered classes in all levels in the National Capital Region suspended on Monday.

Automatic suspensions

Under Department of Education rules, the decision to suspend classes in areas where no Public Storm Warning Signal is raised is up to the local government units.

Under the same guidelines, preschool classes are suspended when an area is put under Signal No. 1.

Classes in the preschool to secondary levels are automatically suspended once Signal No. 2 is raised over an area.

When an area is under Signal no. 3, classes from preschool to college and graduate school are automatically canceled. Work in government offices is also suspended.

Typhoon Luis made landfall in the Cagayan-Isabela area on Sunday afternoon.
