NAIA is once again ‘one of world’s worst airports’

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) again got ranked as one of the world’s worst airports.

According to a list compiled by US website, The Cheat Sheet, NAIA is among the 10 worst airports in the world because of its poor facilities and long queues.

The Cheat Sheet also cited the airport’s “impolite” staff, despite Filipinos being known around the world for their warmth.

“Travelers complained about the airport’s rundown facilities, impolite staff and officials, and long wait times,” the article said.

The article also mentioned the airport’s overcapacity, which has resulted to long lines that begin outside the terminal.

“This Manila-based airport struggles with the 32 million passengers who use its facility each year. That shouldn’t come as a shock, though, considering it only has the capacity for 6 million passengers, according to CNBC,” it said.

In 2013, NAIA was named worst airport in the world by travel website Sleeping In Airports, which asked travelers to rank airports based on comfort, conveniences, cleanliness, and customer service.

However, The Cheat Sheet noted that “good news” are in store for NAIA with upgrades and renovations already in progress.

The Department of Transportation and Communications earlier appealed for the public’s understanding while renovation works are ongoing.

Renovation is expected to be completed by April 2015.
