In its latest weather bulletin for Tuesday, August 26, PAGASA says light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Bicol region, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and the provinces of Pangasinan, Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon as a Low Pressure Area (LPA) has been spotted estimated in the vicinity of Alabat, Quezon.
The yellow rainfall warning alert also remains in effect over Metro Manila, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, and Quezon.
That means there’s a potential for flooding in low lying areas over the next two to three hours.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Rains are expected to last the whole day.
PAGASA weather forecaster Gener Quitlong however says the LPA is not expected to intensify into a tropical depression, but downpours are expected across Central and Southern Luzon before that system dissipates and the weather improves.
Some cities, schools suspend classes over heavy rains, flooding
Classes have been suspended in some areas and schools due to flooding and heavy rains caused by a low pressure area.
The cities of Manila and Pasay, as well as the municipality of Taytay, Rizal have suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools for Tuesday due to flooding.
“Gusto ko lang po makiusap dito sa Maynila. (Ilan na po binabaha?) Mga 40 percent…. Espanya. Sa City Hall po may pasok pa,” Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada says.
The University of the East in Caloocan has also suspended classes.
Other areas have also cancelled work for public and private employees. (Please check with your schools, offices, and local government units to confirm these suspensions.)
