Suspended Makati Mayor Junjun Binay on Thursday said there is nothing wrong with his sister, Sen. Nancy Binay, becoming a lawmaker while saying Sen. Grace Poe cannot be president because she lacks experience.

The mayor on Thursday defended his sister from critics who say the latter had no governmental position and had no experience before becoming senator.

The younger Binay said to say that his sister is inexperienced is wrong because the latter worked with their father, Vice-President Jejomar Binay, prior to her stint in the Senate.

”Nakita niya kung paano ba mag-trabaho ang tatay ko, what it is like to work in government. So that statement is wrong, kasi ‘di pwedeng sabihin walang experience,” he said on ANC’s Headstart.

”Siya naman ay laging kasama ng tatay ko, kasama siya sa pagtulong sa mga issues ng HUDCC,” he added, referring to the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council which his father headed as a member of the Aquino Cabinet.

The younger Binay argued that Nancy and Senator Poe should not be compared because Poe is supposedly aspiring to become the country’s next president.

At least nakita niya paano ba magtrabaho ang tatay ko, what is it like to be working in government.”

During the 2013 polls, Nancy became the subject of online ridicule due to her supposed inexperience in government. She responded by saying that her experience working for her father is enough.

Poe’s critics have said she may not be ready for the presidency because of her lack of experience.

During yesterday’s launch of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), the older Binay’s political party, the vice-president took a swipe at the junior senator and the current administration’s supposed laziness and indecisiveness.

Sen. Poe has not yet decided whether she will seek the presidency in 2016, even if the latest presidential preference surveys show she has overtaken the vice-president.

A Bloomberg poll also showed that the junior senator was picked by a majority of bankers and analysts as the best choice to steer the Philippine economy after President Aquino leaves office.

Yesterday’s UNA launch was not the first instance the vice-president took a swipe at Sen. Poe’s supposed inexperience.

Political lines were drawn when Poe rejected the possibility of running with Binay.

The junior senator and the long-time Makati mayor then exchanged heated words, with the former saying the country needs an honest leader and the latter arguing that the next president should have executive experience.

The vice-president is facing numerous allegations of corruptions, mostly in connection to various Makati projects.

He has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, but this did not prevent his popularity figures from sliding down.
