iOS 8 is coming on September 17

September 16, 2014 Technology

Mark your calendars Apple device users!

September 17 will be the date when iOS 8 will starting rolling out on your iPhones and/or iPads.

The beta version of iOS 8 has been available to developers and testers for quite some times now. It will be made available to all starting September 17.

There is no specific release time of the said update since Apple doesn’t divulge such information. However, we can try making an educated guess based on updates in the past. Before, Apple usually pushed out new versions on the US west coast relatively early in the day. With a three-hour difference, the US east coast will receive the new iOS at around noon. Going further east, others will receive the update early evening. Moving outside of the country, users in Europe will probably be notified of the update at night. And so the OS update push continues to move until it reaches Asia, and eventually, the Philippines. From this observation, iOS 8 may reach your iPhones and/or iPads around September 18 or 19.

The iOS 8 update, like before, will be available over-the-air (OTA) or through iTunes on your computer. If you’re opting to update via iTunes, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

No matter what mode of update you choose, make sure that your iDevice has enough battery (around 80% is good) when the update starts rolling into your device. If your battery power is low, update will refuse to start.

The iOS 8 update will be compatible with:

  • iPhone 4s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPad 2
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 4
  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini
  • iPad mini with Retina Display
  • iPod touch (5th gen)

Approximate release times are shown below:
