Is this the Samsung Galaxy S6?

May 23, 2014 Technology

We’re still several months away from the next Mobile World Congress and many of us still do not own a Samsung Galaxy S5, but the Internet now offers speculative details of Samsung’s next flagship smartphone. Assuming that Samsung would call it the Galaxy S6, sources present possible superlative specifications of the handset, which include a 5.2-inch bendable, edge-to-edge 3D touchscreen with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and a waterproof aluminum chassis that can withstand pressure at depths of 100 meters.

In terms of the processor, reports add that the S6 might run on Exynos 6 or Snapdragon 810, which is possible as these chips represent upcoming CPUs from Samsung and Qualcomm. Sources are also looking forward to see the S6 with a 20- to 21-megapixel main camera, 7- to 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3300mAh to 4000mAh battery module, running on either Android 5.0 Lollipop or Android 6.0 Milkshake with 64GB and 128GB internal memory choices. In addition to connectivity options like 4G LTE, NFC, and USB 3.0, reports also speculate that the S6 might support 5G connectivity, but this would be unlikely as the technology is not yet available until 2020. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is anticipated to cost US$ 800.

In any case, although these specifications are purely hypothetical at this point, Samsung’s next flagship device should significantly exceed the characteristics of the current Galaxy S5. If the S6 would fail to impress particularly in the design department, we might see another head rolling inside Samsung’s camp.
