Son’s letter breaks Derek Ramsay’s heart

September 26, 2014 Showbiz News

Facing rejection from anyone is tough. But coping with rejection from your own flesh and blood is devastating.

This, Derek Ramsay felt when his 11-year-old son admitted before Makati assistant prosecutor Erwin Dimayacyac on Thursday, September 25, that he himself wrote the letter expressing how much he dislikes his dad.

Mary Christine Jolly“Yes, it broke my heart,” Derek admitted after the hearing, which failed to arrive at a settlement between the actor and estranged wife Mary Christine Jolly, the boy’s mother.

Derek said he went to the hearing because he knew his son will be there with his mom. He added that he wants to put up a trust fund right away for his son, who can touch it when’s of the right age.

Not convinced

But Jolly, who is charging Derek of violating Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, is not convinced.

“At the end of the day, no one suffers most than your son,” she referred to Derek minutes before he arrived.

“If you’re a good father, why are you fighting me? I kept quiet for 11 years. Now that I filed a case against you, you’re fighting me.”

She added that Derek should have settled the issue out of court and explained that waging a legal battle against her is tantamount to fighting her son as well.

“If you attack me, you attack my son. Your goal is not to take care of your son.”

Atty. Joji Alonso, Derek’s legal counsel, admitted she has already been preparing a proposal for a potential agreement between the actor and Jolly. But “certain statements relayed to us regarding the interpretation of the trust fund” got in the way.

Money matters

Derek said he was informed that besides the trust fund, “I have to pay for the lawyer and everything else.”

Jolly’s lawyer, Argee Guevarra, however, earlier told media that using money to get his (Derek’s) wish is a violation of his client’s dignity.

“Hindi naman kami ganoong klaseng tao.Ito ay pagyurak sa aming kapakanan at sa dignidad ng aming kliyente.”

Jolly has vowed to continue the battle “for my right as wife and mother” and even to file more cases based on the travel documents of Derek’s ex-girlfriends Solenn Heussaff, Angelica Panganiban and Cristine Reyes.

Derek’s apology

“I don’t know why their names are being dragged,” Derek protested.

“I apologize to these people. I don’t know what the connection is between this and my son.”
Since both parties failed to reach an agreement, Dimayacyac set the next hearing on Monday, October 13, also in his office.

Derek came with his mother Remedios and former girlfriend Colette Centeno, who flew all the way from London, while Jolly came with son Austin and some friends.
