[WATCH] Emotional Boy Abunda wants to get well for mom

TV host Boy Abunda has good news for his followers. He is on his way to “great recovery.” He also learned a lesson about his health ordeal, which stemmed from an abscess in the liver.

“One of my doctors said, ‘In all these years, hindi ka naman nagkakasakit. You’ve been running too fast. You thought you were invincible, you thought you were Iron Man. Ipinapaalala lang sa iyo ng Diyos at ng katawan mo, na hindi mo kaya lahat.’ My stay in the hospital humbled me. Powerless po talaga,” he said in a taped interview on “The Buzz” on Sunday, September 7.

Boy was confined for few weeks in the hospital and underwent various tests before the 300 ml abscess was drained from his liver.

Surrendering to the Lord

“Naiintindihan ko po kung bakit maraming nasindak noong nagkasakit ako. Bumigay na ho talaga ako. Sobrang sakit po ng aking ulo. Ayon sa nurses na aking kasama, ayon sa aking mga nagbabantay, nagdeliryo ho ako. Nagkombulsyon po ako. Ang sabi sa akin, nagchi-chill daw ako ng sobra. Sobra-sobrang chill, nakakatakot daw akong panoorin.”
The TV host admitted feeling helpless on his sickbed. Boy shared that he surrendered his life to the Lord and asked for His help.

“Meron palang pagkakataon sa buhay ng isang tao, mga kaibigan, that sobra kang hina, that you are so helpless. Ibinigay ko sa Diyos ang aking buhay at ibinigay ko sa mga doctor ang aking buhay. Kahit anong (medical) test, ‘I’m open’ sabi ko sa aking doktor, to any test.”

While his loved ones stayed by his side, Boy admitted feeling vulnerable and lonely.

Stripped naked

“Hinang-hina po ako. Ang sakit-sakit po ng aking nararamdaman. For the first, time, kahit andoon ang aking mga mahal sa buhay, andoon si Bong (Quintana, his long-time partner, with whom he vacationed in Amanpulo after he was released from the hospital in August 23), ang aking mga nurses, ang aking kapatid, for the first time in my life, doon ko po naramdaman yung may episode po pala na ikaw lang at ang Diyos. I was stripped naked.”

Overwork took a toll on Boy’s health, and he realized God wanted to remind him to take care of his well-being.

He also realized his passion for work stemmed from his wish to give his family a good life. He asked the Lord to save him, especially because his mother has mild dementia.

One of the worst falls

“Sabi ko, ‘Panginoong Diyos, huwag mong pabayaang ilibing ako ng nanay ko. I don’t want to die. Ayaw kong mamatay.’ Ang hirap isipin na ang nanay ko na walang kamalay-malay sa bahay, hindi maganda ang pakiramdam ng kanyang anak — nakikipagsapalaran, nakikipaglaban sa ospital. Sabi ko, ‘Lord, itong isa lang na ito, huwag mo lang papayagang ang nanay ko ang maglibing sa akin. Hindi ko kaya iyon.”

Boy thanked his family, friends, and ABS-CBN executives for their support and care. He singled out close friend Kris Aquino for being there for him.

“This is one of the worst falls. This is a bad fall, Krissy. And you managed to catch me. Salamat for covering for me.”

Boy wants to be back on TV soon, but he did not give the exact date of his return to the small screen.

“Am I absolutely healthy? Siguro nasa mga 90 porsyento na po. I am on my way to a joyful, great recovery.”
