Globe admits websites hacked, but…

November 29, 2014 Philippine Local News

The message read: “Dear Globe, your service on your Internet connection is not worthy what we pay for. Do something or expect the consequence. This is just the beginning. Expect us! All your data belongs to us now!”

The Coorms.com blog reported that on November 27, 2014, hacktivists calling themselves Blood Security Hackers left that message on four websites owned by Globe Telecom.

The telco confirms that at around 10 p.m. on that day, it has detected a defacement on the following sites:

* mybusiness.globe.com.ph
* duo.globe.com.ph
* payroll.globe.csme.com
* update.globe-csme.com

Globe, however, assures that “no critical customer data has been compromised as these information are not stored in the affected websites.”

Anton Bonifacio, the company’s chief information security officer, says that the four sites are hosted by a third-party vendor.

“The server where they are hosted … is outside of the Globe Corporate and Enterprise Network, where appropriate preventive and detective controls are in place,” he adds.

Philippine telcos have long been criticized for offering what independent studies say is the slowest Internet speed in Southeast Asia.

On September 16, 2014, a Senate hearing headed by Senator Bam Aquino looked into the reported slow and costly Internet service in the country.
