August 20, 2015 Philippine Local News

President Benigno Aquino III has signed a law declaring August 18 of every year as Jesse Robredo Day, Malacañang announced Thursday.

Republic Act 10669 declares August 18 a special working holiday honoring the late interior and local government secretary.

The Palace said Jesse Robredo Day is to be celebrated in all elementary and secondary schools to let students remember and continue Robredo’s “legacy of good governance and leadership.”

Robredo, known for his “tsinelas” leadership, died in a plane crash in the waters off Masbate City on August 18, 2012.

The pilot of the ill-fated Piper Seneca plane, Capt. Jessup Bahinting, and Nepalese pilot trainee Kshitiz Chand were also killed in the crash.
