Office work but no classes on Feb. 25

The 29th anniversary of the EDSA people power revolution that ousted the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986 would be a regular working day for employees but there will be no classes in all levels, Malacañang clarified yesterday.

“We just like to clarify that based on Proclamation 831 that was issued in July 2014, this coming Feb. 25 will be a regular working day for all workers,” said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.

Those who will only be enjoying the holiday are students from all levels. “It will only be a school holiday and the regular course of work will not be affected. It will be a regular working day,” he added.

President Aquino will lead the 29th anniversary celebration of the EDSA People Power revolt on Feb. 25, as major events would be held in Malacañang and the EDSA Shrine in Quezon City.

On Feb. 24, the President will participate in a ceremony to honor outstanding youth organizations, to be held at the Heroes Hall of the Palace, according to Emily Abrera of the EDSA People Power Commission.

She said the commission has partnered with the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards Foundation to honor youth organizations that have exemplified the spirit of People Power and bayanihan through their programs and projects.

The award, now on its 12th year, continues to encourage youth involvement in nation building.

There will also be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig on the morning of Feb. 24 to commemorate all past heroes, including the military personnel who were at the 1986 revolution.
