The traffic officer subject of the viral video which earned widespread ire from netizens on Wednesday has already been identified as Ruel Ramos and is now under suspension.
Ramos has been suspended from duty after a video showing him cursing and threatening a truck driver in Manila went viral on social media.
In the video which was uploaded by a certain Yuki Fujii and subsequently posted on various social networking sites, Ramos was seen berating the truck driver and heard saying: “isang bala ka lang, limang libo ka lang, patay ka na sakin, tandaan mo yan” (You’re just a bullet, priced at five thousand pesos, you’re dead, keep that in mind) at 00:51 seconds. The video ended with the traffic officer walking out from the scene with his motorcycle.
Netizens shared the video to Manila vice mayor Isko Moreno, who immediately took action.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Moreno said he ordered Ramos’ “immediate indefinite suspension effective immediately pending investigation of his possible administrative and criminal liability.”
A photo of the memorandum from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB), which is under the Office of the Mayor, was attached which says that effective September 4, Ramos is “suspended from the service for committing irregularities in the performance of [his] duties.”
